Vintage patchwork square

This piece has quite a few marks on it but it is a wonderful example of the kind of patchwork ralli work done by women in the villages of Sindh. Rallis are bedspreads made by cutting shapes out of fabric and layering them onto a base piece of fabric. It’s an old piece, it would be hard to find a modern one with these colours.

The back of the piece is vintage ajrak - a type of fabric unique to Sindh & the Indian state of Gujarat where the pattern is hand printed and dyed.

Could be used to make a cushion or displayed on the wall.
