Vintage Tajik Suzani Cushion Cover - Tulip

Suzani is a type of embroidered tribal textile from Central Asia. While sourced in Pakistan, these cushion covers are Tajik in origin. Central Asian textiles often end up in Pakistan, following the centuries-old Silk Route. Pakistan doesn't share a border with Tajikistan but at their closest point the two countries are only separated by a 10 mile (16 km) strip of Afghan land. There is a sizeable community of ethnic Tajiks in Pakistan who came to the country as refugees from Afghanistan. For these reasons, Central Asian design motifs are often also found in Pakistani textiles, both old and new.

This particular cushion has the tulip motif, a multi-faceted symbol in Islamic art that can represent love, Allah (God), perfection and beauty.

NB. This is a vintage, handmade item. There may be irregularities but that is part of its charm.
